Client: I like the "flashy, moving graphics and I like the use of photography, it is straight and to the point. My boss also thinks this is excellent as well. However, how long would it take to make a site like this look a little more like ebay.com?"
Me: well, this is all flash, an entirely different technology. This is what your company agreed to in the development guidelines and the design was approved 5 weeks ago.
Client: "Well go ahead and give it an "ebay feel" and I'll talk to the boss"
Moral of the story:
Make a kick ass site with flash for 3 months (at the clients specs and approval) to have the client come back and make you redesign it a second time! You'll make twice the money.
