I was contacted by a friend to submit a comp on a site redesign for a university alumni site.

I created a couple comps, a working prototype for the homepage, and was asked to a meeting with the director of the project.

In the interview I was told that the update needed to happen quickly and that there would be monthy updates and new features. The client was EXTREMELY concerned that I be able to handle the work in a timely manner and that if I have other high load clients he would take precedence. He informed me that there would be a need for 24hr turn around on updates and minor changes, and 'drop everything and make me a gizmo' service for new features.

"Of course!" I said, "No problem!"

And then we talked pricing for this premium monthly 24/7 service contract. He told me that there were already three other designers interested and who had bid less.

I told him, "I'm sorry but I don't feel I would be able to put that kind of time aside for anything less." We shook hands and I haven't heard from him again.

The site hasn't changed in over a year.
