Summary of a bad experience:
Enter: July of this year. I took on a side project to construct a basic site for my company (Until they could hire it out. Basically I did it for free) on top of my current print workload.
HOP: Head of Project
me: me
me: so what do you want this site to look like?
HOP: I don't really know.
me: Well do you want it to look kind of traditional (it's an insurance company; lot's of wood and brass around the office) or more modern and cutting edge?
HOP: I don't really know.
me: Well what kind of font would you like to use?
HOP: What's a font? I don't really spend that much time on the internet.
(Ugggh.....Why are you the head of this project?)
I do a mock up that coincides with a corporate brochure we have....
HOP: (after weeks of inactivity) It looks good but it needs more color and more umph.
me: Like what?
HOP: I don't know.
me: Well, go find some sites you like and show them to me.
Three weeks later...
HOP: How's the site coming?
me: Uhh, I'm waiting for you to show me some examples of what you think our site should look like.
HOP: Well I don't spend that much time on the internet so you just go and find some sites you think I would like and show them to me and we can go from there.
I redesign the site from scratch (not showing her any sites)....
HOP: Looks great but I'd like to see movement. It also needs to be done by the end of the month (it was the 11th of September by this time) because people have been asking about it.
me: Uhh OK..
November 1st the site goes live, still with no movement and looking like crap. The only hits the counter has gotten is from the second computer I use to test the site.
Every time she comes into the office she still manages to ask me how the site is going. All I can say is, "It's going good."
