Here's one that I'll never forget:
I was contracted to create a web site for a local business late last year, and after a handful of weeks creating print composites of the web site, we got together for a lunchtime meeting to discuss my designs. After passing out copies for everyone at the table, one of the women (there were 4) squinched her eyes, held the paper up to her face (brushing her nose), moved it back again, squinched more, then said...
Client: "What is this?"
Me: "What is what?"
Client: "The text. I can't read this."
Me: "You mean it's too small?"
Client: "No...I mean...what language is this?"
Me: "Oh...it's Latin. It's just there to fill the space so you know what the real text will look like."
Client: "But I can't read Latin."
Me: "I know. It'll be in English when you send the final copy to me."
Client: "Copy?"
Me: "Yes...the descriptive text for each section of the site."
Client: "You mean...we need to GIVE YOU text?"
Me: "Uhh....yes..."
Client: "Oh........"
[long uncomfortable silence]
Client: "Well...I thought you would write it for us."
[sigh]
Website was never launched or designed. Still waiting after a year for...copy.
